A Day In The Life

Saturday, January 31, 2009 - Sunday, February 1, 2009

A Day in the Life of a Mom with a 2-month old and a 2-year old.

Here’s a sneak peak into my daily life! We bathe the boys every 2-3 days, though, so that’s not an everyday thing. And it is VERY RARE for them to sleep that long! Especially at the same time! Oh, and I was VERY sick by the end of the day. But otherwise….this is pretty much my daily life!

4:00a.m. - I guess this is the official start to the day since I’ve been sleeping since 9:30 pm. Yes, that’s right- 6 ½ straight hours of sleep! This is the most consecutive sleep I’ve had since Logan’s arrival and I needed it. My throat hurts this morning. I must be coming down with something. I woke up several times briefly to check on Logan since I couldn’t believe he hadn’t woken up before now. But he’s fine. He nurses on both sides for a total of about 15 minutes and is back asleep. I lay him in his bassinet and go back to sleep myself.

4:30a.m. - I hear Micah in the kitchen getting into the refrigerator. Mat hears him too and gets up since he needs to use the bathroom anyway. Micah gets a drink of juice and climbs back into our bed. He’s snoring before Mat even gets out of the bathroom. Everyone goes back to sleep.

5:30a.m. - Logan is awake again. I get him up and change his diaper since I didn’t do it when he was up at 4:00. It’s wet, but not as wet as I thought it would be. He’s wide awake and I really am not ready to get up for the day. I see if he wants to nurse, but he doesn’t. I play with him on the bed for a little bit.

5:45a.m. - Mat has to get up in a half hour to get ready for work so I ask him if he will take Logan now so I can get a little more sleep. He does.

6:15a.m. - Mat brings Logan back to me and asks me to try to feed him since he is chewing on his hands. I offer, but Logan doesn’t want it. Mat takes him again and tries rocking him. But he’s wide awake and doesn’t want to go back to sleep. I get up to use the bathroom and Micah insists on coming with me. I lay down again, but Micah refuses to. He goes to the living room where Mat and Logan are.

6:30a.m. - Mat lays Logan in his bassinet (awake) and turns on the music, lights, and mobile on it. Logan “talks” for awhile and then starts fussing. Mat makes Micah some toast and turns on Thomas the Tank Engine for him.

6:45a.m. - I get Logan out of the bassinet and lay him beside me to try and feed him again. This time he’s ready to eat and he falls asleep after about 5 minutes of nursing. Micah has been begging me to open a container of butterscotch pudding the whole time. I make sure Logan is okay laying in our bed and get up with Micah.

7:00a.m. - Micah’s pudding looks good so I get some for myself. The alarm on my cell phone goes off. I race into the bedroom to turn it off, hoping that it hasn’t woken Logan up. It hasn’t, thank goodness. I need to set the alarm for “weekdays only”.

7:10a.m. - Logan is sleeping and Micah is eating and watching Thomas. I decide to check my email. I have an email notification of payment from an item I sold on eBay the other day. It reminds me that I’m supposed to buy something on eBay for my brother.

7:15a.m. - Micah is done eating and is getting some toys to play with. He’s coughing and his nose is running. Ugh. Everyone is sick except Logan. I check on Logan. He’s fine and still sleeping. I decide to try and order the thing my brother wants from eBay.

7:30a.m. - Micah is throwing a tantrum over one of his toys that he can’t get to work right. I need to email my brother real quick since I can’t find the thing that he wants me to order for him.

7:45a.m. - Check on Logan. He’s still sleeping. Change Micah’s diaper and play.

8:00a.m. - Micah’s upset that we can’t find his “big zebra”. I put some music on and decide to clean in hopes of finding it.

8:05a.m. - Making Micah’s bed and find his big zebra in it. He’s getting more juice out of the fridge. He’s excited when I take the zebra to him. Go back to cleaning the house.

9:00a.m. - Micah says, “I’m going to check on Logan.” I go with him. He’s still sleeping. I package up my PDA and accessories that I sold on eBay and get it ready to ship.

9:15a.m. - I hear Logan stirring so I go to check on him. He’s awake after sleeping for a little more than 2 hours. I get him up, change his diaper and feed him. Meanwhile, Micah drags ½ gallon of chocolate milk out of the refrigerator and is asking for a glass. I tell him to wait. He sets the milk down in the living room and leaves the refrigerator door open. After telling him 3 times to close it, he finally does. He then goes into his room and poops, then comes to tell me that he needs a new diaper.

9:35a.m. - Logan is done eating. I put him in his bouncy seat, put the chocolate milk back in the refrigerator, change Micah’s diaper and decide to give the boys their baths.

10:00a.m. - Micah is bathed and dressed. He was not happy about bath time which isn’t usually like him. I finally got him in by convincing him that his zebra was dirty and needed a bath. So I washed Micah and he washed his zebra.

10:05a.m. - Decide to use the tummy tub with Logan for the first time. He loves it, but it is hard to hold him and wash him at the same time. Plus Micah wants to help wash him and is getting me soaking wet in the meantime.

10:20a.m. - Logan is bathed and dressed. Put him in his bouncy seat so I can get Micah a snack. He starts fussing.

10:25a.m. - Try to vacuum, but it scares Logan and he starts crying. So I pick him up and let him comfort nurse. Bad, I know, but he’s happy. He almost falls asleep, but Micah is wanting me to open his case of cars so I have to tend to him.

10:45a.m. - Micah is hungry again so I get out leftovers from supper and warm them up. He eats a whole plate full of pears, peas, and chicken. He also has a full glass of chocolate milk. Logan is sitting in his highchair watching, looking half asleep.

11:00a.m. - Micah is still eating so I decide to wash the dishes that I didn’t get done the night before. I have to hurry to get them all done before Micah gets done eating, but I succeed.

11:15a.m. - Micah is done eating and I’m done with the dishes. I give him 4 Sixlets and we head to his room to begin the naptime battle. I tuck him in and he asks for his big zebra. So I go get it out of the living room and tell him that if he does a good job and takes a nap that we’ll make rice krispie treats when he wakes up. I get Logan out of his high chair and nurse and rock him.

11:30a.m. - Logan is asleep so I lay him in his swing. Micah is in his room crying for a new diaper. I go change him and he is barely wet. I put him back in bed and remind him about the rice krispie treats. I leave the room and he screams.

11:45a.m. - Micah has been quiet for awhile and I wonder if he may have fallen asleep. Debate about whether or not to peek in at him, but decide to wait a little longer in case he is still awake. Logan is still sleeping. I decide to turn on the tv and check my email and baby fit.

12:45p.m. - Been surfing the Net and watching tv while both kids sleep. Check on Micah. I’m enjoying a nice break!

1:11p.m. - Can’t believe that both Micah and Logan are still asleep! Going to check on Micah, take the baby gate down, and take a shower.

1:30p.m. - Out of the shower and dressed. Check on the boys again - STILL ASLEEP! Walk outside to get the mail. It’s 45 degrees today which is way nice. Thinking about taking the boys for a short walk when they wake up unless Micah remembers the rice krispie treat promise.

1:50p.m. - Micah is up. He comes out to the living room and helps himself to some pretzels. Logan is still asleep so Micah and I make rice krispie treats.

2:15p.m. - Rice krispie treats are done, but Micah wants pudding for a snack. I give it to him. Logan is still sleeping so Micah and I play with his trains and read books.

3:50p.m. - Logan is waking up. I get him out of his swing and he is soaked through. I change him and nurse him while reading a book to Micah.

4:30p.m. - I’m starting to feel tired and ready for Mat to get home so he can help out. I lay Logan down on a blanket on the floor and talk to him and we play pat-a-cake, so big, etc. Micah is in his room dragging out all of the toys I put away earlier in the day. The house was clean for awhile…..

5:00p.m. - Feeling really weak and achy. A lot worse than I felt earlier in the day. Ugh. I hate being sick.

5:30p.m. - Logan is asleep again. I lay him in his swing and sit in the rocking chair playing puppets with Micah. He has a ton of energy and I’m feeling really tired, sick, and worn down.

6:30p.m. - Micah has a dirty diaper so I change him. While we are in his room, Logan starts crying. He’s awake. I give Micah his pajamas to take out to the living room and he throws them down in front of Logan’s swing. I get Logan up and feed and cuddle him.

6:40p.m. - Mat is home, thank goodness. I’m feeling very, very sick by now.

7:00p.m. - I haven’t been this sick in a very long time. I just felt worse and worse as the day has gone on. I put Logan in his bouncy seat and go to bed. Micah follows me and jumps all around on the bed. He has so much energy!

7:30p.m. - Mat puts Micah to bed and I fall asleep right away.

10:00p.m. - I wake up feeling really thirsty. I go get some water, get my cell phone, and change the alarm to “weekdays only”. Then it’s back to bed.

12:00a.m. - Logan wakes up to eat. He takes one side (about 10 minutes) and he’s back asleep. I lay him in his bassinet and go back to sleep myself.

5:00a.m. - Logan is awake again. I feed him again and he only takes one side. He doesn’t go back to sleep and is smiling a lot. So I play with him in bed for awhile, change his diaper, then go out to the living room to rock him. He falls asleep fairly quickly and I lay him back down and go back to sleep.

7:30a.m. - Logan is up again and Micah is up in the living room watching Handy Manny. I don’t know how long he has been up, but Mat must have turned the tv on for him. I feed Logan, play with him in bed for a bit and get up to do it all over again! Thankfully, today is Sunday and Mat is home!
