We listed our house for sale in March 2009, just 2 months ago. We figured that it would sit on the market for a long time, since houses in this area usually do. In 2 months we have only had our house shown 3 times. But, the third showing resulted in an offer! Our house is listed at $43,000 and the offer was for $38,000. We countered at $40,000 and she offered $39,000 which we accepted. Tuesday morning at 8:00 we have a termite inspection and should have an appraiser coming sometime next week. Hopefully everything will go well!
We started looking at houses the same time that we listed our house so we could get a good idea of the kinds of things that we liked in a house, location, etc. Early on, our realtor showed us a house 1 mile outside of Ft. Madison and Mat said, "This is it. This is the one." He liked it right away, but it took seeing it 3 more times for me to feel the same way. There are some not so great things about it, but the potential is there, and it is the best house we've seen in our 2 months of looking. So, this past Tuesday we put an offer in on it and, after going back and forth a few times, it was accepted.
Tuesday morning Mat is going to his bank to take his tax returns, pay stubs, the purchase agreement, etc. Then it will be probably a good week until we hear if he'll get approved for the mortgage. He is a little bit worried about it because his checks vary in amount since they are dependent on the number/types of jobs he does each week. But all we can do is wait and see. In case we can't get the financing for that house or if something else falls through, we're still looking out for other properties. Late Tuesday afternoon we are going to check out a house that will be sold at auction early June. But that's about it! It's a long process and lots of waiting, but we'll let you know if everything with our house goes through, if we get financed for the house we put an offer on, or if we have to keep house hunting!
Hope everything is having a great holiday weekend!
